Egypt sustains supremacy at African games

Egypt on Saturday sustained its supremacy at the African games by retaining the first position with a total of 79 gold medals, 87 silver and 61 bronze- all totaling 229 medals.

Nigeria maintained its second position with 40 gold, 28 silver and 35 bronze –  totaling 103 medals while South Africa came third with 32 gold, 24 silver and 21 bronze and Algeria fourth with 31 gold, 27 silver and 55 bronze medals with the host country, Morocco coming fifth with 27 gold, 26 silver and 40 bronze.

4,386 athletes from 53 countries participated in the 12th African Games.

Morocco had the largest contingent of athletes with 401, followed by Egypt with 325, Nigeria -311, Algeria -268, Democratic Republic of Congo -263, Kenya – 250, Ethiopia -176 and South Africa has 154.

The country with the least contingent is Liberia with only 3 athletes followed by Guinea Bissau which has four while Tanzania and Mauritania came with 10 each just as Rwanda and Somalia had eleven each.
