President of the Democratic Republic Congo (DRC), Felix Tshisekedi, said DRC will open a diplomatic and trade representation in Jerusalem.

Tshisekedi, the current African Union (AU) chairperson, met with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett in Jerusalem on Thursday, according to an announcement from Bennett’s office.

According to the statement, the DRC president stated that his country would open a diplomatic and trade representation in Jerusalem, and that he supported “Israel’s entrance as an observer to the AU and is working to that end.”

For his part, Bennett thanked Tshisekedi for “his deep friendship with Israel.”

The two leaders also discussed “strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture, communications, and trade,” added the statement.

During his visit to Israel, Tshisekedi also met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, and paid a visit to the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem.

Tshisekedi began his first official visit to Israel on Tuesday and he would stay for five days.
