Nigerian government has set a new date Aug. 16, for the start of the second batch of COVID-19 Moderna vaccine doses donated by the United States.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, made the announcement on Monday during a live broadcast on the Nigerian Television Authority’s “Good Morning Nigeria.”

The minister claimed the postponement of the immunization effort from August 10 to August 16 was “purely administrative” on a program monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

“We received 4,80,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine and will begin administering them on Monday, August 16th.

“The workout was intended to start tomorrow, August 10th, but we had to postpone it because of the weather.

When vaccinations arrive in the country, they are taken to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), which will analyze them and then give us the go-ahead to use them,” he explained.

The minister refuted allegations in several outlets that the exercise had been postponed indefinitely because to concerns voiced by some specialists over the use of Mode.

“I want to applaud Nigerians for the way they responded to the first batch of Astrazeneca Vaccine, which was fully administered without a hitch,” he said, adding that the doses of Moderna vaccine supplied to the country by the US were “safe and aimed to save lives.”

“I can state categorically that we were successful in administering the four million vaccination doses.”

He explained that people aged 18 and up were targeted because younger people, even in the United States, were becoming more vulnerable to COVID-19 infection and attack. Mohammed emphasized the importance of people coming out to get the vaccine, saying, “Nigeria has entered the third wave of COVID-19.”

He explained that the COVID-19 pandemic’s Delta version, which is more virulent and fatal, had been recorded in some states since July.
