Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has given Airtel Mobile Commerce Nigeria Ltd., an Airtel Africa subsidiary, preliminary license to operate as a super agent.

This is according to a notice signed by Simon O’Hara, Airtel Africa’s Group Company Secretary, and published on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Ltd. website on Monday in Lagos.

The super agent license is unique from the Payment Service Bank (PSB) license, which the company gained preliminary approval for on November 4.

The PSB license was essential for Airtel to be authorized to provide financial services in Nigeria, according to the statement.

Cash deposits, payments, and remittances, issuing debit and prepaid cards, electronic wallets, and other financial services were among the services specified in the notification.

According to the notification, “under the super agent license, we would be able to construct an agent network that can service the customers of licensed Nigerian banks, payment service banks, and licensed mobile money operators in Nigeria.”

The ultimate approval of the super agent license was contingent on the group meeting certain standard conditions, according to the statement.
