Governor of Cross River State, South-South Nigeria, Senator Bassey Otu, has promised to make the Calabar Carnival the biggest Street Party in Africa.
” This is One of our campaign promises to move the Carnival to the next Level,” Governor Otu said as he flagged off this year’s annual Calabar Carnival.
“If you look at the environment, you will see that everyone is ready to vibrates,” the governor noted.
He noted that the Calabar Carnival had been reinvigorated and commended First Bank Nigeria Zenith Bank ,United Bank for Africa (UBA) and Sterling Bank for keeing to his Administration.
Otu said Cross River State remains the preferred destination for Tourism and Appeal to investors to take advantage of Calabar.
Governor Otu was accompanied by the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enor, and the Minister of humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Betta Edu, as well Chief of Defence Intelligence, Service Commanders, Deputy Governor Peter Odey, Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Albert Ayambem, Chairman of the Cross River State All Progressives Congress (APC), Alphonsus Ogar Eba and South South Chairman of the APC.

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has pledged to improve the welfare of paramilitary personnel, including seamless promotion and a new salary package.
Tunji-Ojo in a statement on Thursday in Abuja by his media aide, Mr Alao Babatunde, said that the government had constituted a committee to end career stagnation in the services, and ensure that promotion process was not circumvented.
“We are working on the promotion exercise of personnel of all our paramilitary agencies, and in a couple of weeks, it will be out.
“We are doing this to bring the era of career stagnation to an end. People should enter the service with the anticipation that one day he or she can become the C-G.
“People should be able to earn their promotion as and when due without knowing anybody.”
He also said that the government was working on new salary and allowances for the personnel.
”We are working on your peculiar allowance, and you can be assured of getting your entitlements soon.
”We are also working on the review of your salary. ‘As a board, we are working with the salaries and wages commission to ensure the upward review of the salaries of our paramilitary officers.
“We are working on the establishment of a paramilitary pension board so that in service and in retirement our men can know that there is assurance of good life.”
The minister who spoke during the inauguration of new uniform for men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), said he would provide the services with the right tools to deliver.
“As a government, we are putting in all that we can to ensure that we provide and support our agencies with the right materials, and of course the right knowledge that is needed to deliver.
“We will continue to support you. We will continue to work on the welfare and training of our officers because it is paramount.
“And of course, we will continue to invest in you because we know that the dividend of our investment is enhanced security.”
He acknowledged their sacrifices to defend the nation against its enemies, and assured them that their sacrifices would not be in vain.

The Emir of Borgu kingdom, HRH Dr. Barrister Mohammed Sani Dantoro, has lauded the current administration for its continued interest in the National Home Grown Feeding Programme for primary schools.
The Emir said the programme will increase pupils’ enrollment in schools significantly.
The Emir made the commendation on Friday while receiving the Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding, Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, who paid a courtesy visit to him in his palace.

The Emir expressed his commitment to providing continuous support for the program initiated by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He however raised concerns regarding the challenges facing the school feeding program, emphasizing that effective implementation, monitoring, and evaluation are crucial for its sustainability.
The Emir highlighted the importance of meeting the expectations of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President in the overall implementation of the school feeding program
Additionally, Hon Dr. Yetunde Adeniji extended her visit to The Ejeh Ankpa IV, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Yakubu.
This visit underscored the present administration’s commitment to inclusivity and reaching out to diverse communities to ensure that all children, regardless of their backgrounds or disabilities, have access to nutritious meals and quality education.
The Monarch expressed joy in Mr. President’s commitment to end hunger and ensure the vulnerable children are catered for under the School Feeding program.
He therefore promised his unflinching support in achieving the success of the Program.
Speaking earlier, Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, said the essence of the visit was to seek the Monarchs’ support in deepening the federal government school feeding program.
She said both Royal Fathers emphasis on implementation, monitoring, and evaluation reflects the importance of ensuring that the program operates smoothly and achieves its intended objectives.
By soliciting support from influential figures like the Emir of Borgu Kingdom and the Eje of Ankpa IV, the Senior Special Assistant and her team are taking steps to strengthen the program and address any challenges it may face.
