From July 30 to August 12, Cambodia will impose a night curfew in the capital Phnom Penh, provincial towns, and populated areas for two weeks.
The curfew is in place to prevent the spread of the Delta COVID-19 type, according to Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
On Wednesday night, he issued an order to impose a curfew from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. in sections or across territory under your administration, particularly in Phnom Penh, provincial towns, and populous areas.
This was a directive to the mayors and governors of the municipalities and provinces.
Hun Sen also urged authorities across the country to properly follow COVID-19 measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
The prime minister also issued a decree on Wednesday night, ordering lockdowns in eight provinces: Koh Kong, Pursat, Battambang, Pailin, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, and Siem Reap.
On Thursday, Phnom Penh Municipal Governor Khuong Sreng released a declaration declaring a curfew in the capital.
“All types of travel, work, and business must be put on hold for the time being.
Any private gatherings of more than ten individuals would also be outlawed in the capital for two weeks, according to the governor.
The precautions were taken after a recent spike in Delta variant cases in the Southeast Asian country.
Cambodia’s health ministry reported 765 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the country’s overall caseload to 75,917.
It went on to say that there were 11 new fatalities, which was a new high.
