Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari today joined the entertainment industry in celebrating with renowned actor, writer and movie producer, Richard Mofe-Damijo (popularly called RMD), on his 6oth birthday, rejoicing with family members, friends and colleagues of the stage and screen star on the milestone occasion.
In a messaged by his Special Adviser (Media & Publicity), Femi Adesina, the President congratulated the veteran actor, who is also a lawyer, on his many achievements in the entertainment industry, winning national and international awards that brought glory to the local film industry, and placed the country on global limelight.
President Buhari noted the contributions of RMD to the field of community and development communications, culture, tourism and journalism, working in the public service as a former Commissioner of Culture and Tourism, preceded by serving as Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism in Delta State.
The President believed the Nigerian entertainment industry has successfully earned a reputable place in the world through hardworking and dedicated professionals, whose tenacity, creativity and resilience continue to attract and sustain viewers on the beauty and cultural diversity of the country.
He felicitated with Nollywood on the joyous event of RMD’s birthday, praying that God will continue to bless and strengthen the actor and his family.
Born on 6 July 1961 in Aladja, Delta State, South-South Nigeria, RMD attended Midwest College, Warri and Anglican Grammar School and was a member of the Drama Club. He enrolled into the University of Benin to continue his education and studied Theatre Arts and later studied law at the University of Lagos, graduating in 2004.
He began his working career as a reporter with the defunct National Concord newspaper owned by late Moshood Abiola, before returning to full-time action and movie production, playing major roles in popular films including Ripples, and Out of Bounds.
Richard Mofe-Damijo, who was once married to was married to Nigerian journalist/publisher, late May Ellen-Ezekiel (MEE), won the Africa Movie Academy Award for for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2005, just as he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 12th Africa Movies Academy Awards in 2016.
