Botswana places President Masisi’s residence under enhanced vigilance against COVID-19 spread

Health authorities in Botswana have enhanced vigilance against COVID-19 introduction and spread at the residence of the leader of the southern African country, President Mokgweetsi Masisi.

This was after some officials serving the presidency closely tested positive for COVID-19. while one unidentified official succumbed to death due to complications related to the global pandemic.

Andrew Sesinyi, the Botswana government spokesperson said  in a statement on Thursday.

Sesinyi said health officials immediately instituted risk assessment resulting in Masisi and his wife, Jane Neo Masisi underwent a COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing.

However, their COVID-19 PCR tests came back negative, Sesinyi said.

“Routine COVID-19 testing for support staff members that serve the presidency closely have now been reinforced further, precautions and protocols of isolation and quarantine have  been effected on affected personnel,’’ said Sesinyi

Sesinyi said no further information could be availed with regard to the duties and roles of the personnel that tested positive for the virus and the one who died in consonance with security precautions and protocols. (Xinhua/NAN)
