The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Chairmanship seat in last Saturday’s local government elections in Shira in Bauchi State, Bello Mu’azu Shira, has described the polls as a sham.
Shira accused the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, of deceiving the people that it was going to conduct a free, fair and credible election when it knew it had no intention of doing so.
Speaking to his supporters at the APC secretariat in Shira, he insisted that no election was conducted in Shira LGA, saying it is a blatant lie to say that elections were held there.
He claimed that they have been cheated, humiliated and dejected by the kind of elections that were held on Saturday.
According to him, the election conducted by BASIEC was an act of lawlessness worthy of condemnation by lovers of democracy and those who mean well for the state.
Shira said: “We are annoyed, we are angry now, because of what happened on Saturday was not an election. We mobilized our people thinking there will be elections, but nothing of that happened. The ended up deceiving us.”
Also speaking, an APC stakeholder in the area, Kani Abubakar Faggo said: “One thing is the fact that God is always on the side of those who have been cheated and against those who cheat.
“We look up to God and we know he will fight for us. But we are presently angry with the system, he said.
The APC stakeholder expressed gratitude to their supporters whom, he said, waited to cast their votes, but were disappointed because we couldn’t vote since there was no election in the area.
He said: “I want to thank our supporters and others who besiege various polling stations to ensure that they voted in this election.
“We are very grateful to you. We appeal to you to remain calm over what happened. We are tensed up and angry.”
Faggo told his supporters that they would consult the state secretariat of the party which he said would take decisive action.
“We cannot tell you what we will do but as obedient followers, we have our state chapter, we have gathered all evidences that there were no elections here in Shira.
“We will meet with them and tender all these to them and we can assure you that they would take action. We know they wouldn’t allow this pass just like that. We only implore you to remain calm and wait for our leaders to act,” he appealed.
