Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of causing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He made the accusation when he received members of the Board of Trustees of the PDP led by its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, during a courtesy visit at the Government House, Bauchi on Wednesday.
Governor Mohammed, who is also the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, claimed that the APC always wants the opposition party to be in disarray.
According to him, to achieve this objective, the APC has put moles in the PDP who keep them abreast (APC) with happenings in the party.
Speaking with specific reference to the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who is in the PDP and is holding a position under the APC administration, he said it was “baffling”and a “bizarre situation.”
He however, expressed optimism that the PDP has the capacity to address the crisis within the party saying that they are not insurmountable.
“We have to close ranks but it is something that is baffling some of us but any challenge is not insurmountable, it will be surmounted by the grace of God and we will find a solution to that and that is why there is a problem.
“It is only PDP with the experience of governance that is being challenged. And you will notice that this is a creation of the other side (the APC). They want us to be in disarray, it (the crisis) is the creation of the APC. They always want to have moles within us, they want to have the knowledge of what is happening within us.
“And you can see that even the Wike that is in the APC and in the PDP, he’s performing very well. They (APC) don’t have people that can perform like our members and that is why they chose to pick him and give him a state-like structure to run; and to us, it is a commendation.
“The press will see that at least, irrespective of the bizarre situation, it is a recognition that PDP has the human capital to deliver Nigeria,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the BoT Chairman, who led the delegation, said that they were in Bauchi to discuss with the Governor on the crisis within the party especially in Rivers State, the election of a substantive National Chairman and other issues within the party.
The former Senate President said that despite the crisis in the party, only the PDP have the capacity to rescue Nigeria out of the woods but pointed out that they are worried about these problems.
“We, members of the Board, are a select few but pointedly selected, those who, indeed, have the future of this great party at heart. We are here to consult with you and by extension, your colleagues, the PDP Governors.
“We are not happy with what is happening in the party and I don’t think Nigerians are happy about what is happening in the party. You will recall that some months ago, this same board wanted to swing into action but the interpretation then was that, it will look like a duplication of duties. Otherwise, what is happening now, would have been nipped in the bud before now.
“You are the President of the PDP and when you advised against it, we said ‘our President has spoken’, so we couldn’t do otherwise. The founding fathers of our party know that we missed it last year and we missed it in 2019. But they have advised us to start early now to cross the ts and dots the is, for 2027.
“The problem in Rivers State, the problem of the NWC, among others. We know how to address issues and resolve issues in PDP. We will not allow factionalization of ideas of positions because we know what we are suffering particularly you, our President,” he stated.
