African countries and respective COVAX doses received so far

The latest African country, as at March 3 midday GMT, to have taken delivery of coronavirus vaccines under the COVAX platform is Senegal.

The West African country is the ninth country to receive consignments. The others are Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Angola, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo and The Gambia.

Dakar received 324,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. So what quantity of jabs have each of the other eight countries gotten under the facility? GhanaWeb presents answers.

Ivory Coast – 500,000

Nigeria – 3.92 million

Angola – 624,000

Democratic Republic of Congo – 1,700,000

Kenya – 1,000,000

The Gambia – 36,000

Rwanda – 240,000. Another 100,000 plus Pfizer vaccines expected later today.

The COVAX global distribution scheme is an vaccine equity platform seeking to accelerate delivery of the shots to less-endowed countries.

COVAX aims to distribute 237 million of the AstraZeneca doses to 142 countries over the next three months to help countries curb the spread of the virus.

Rwanda is due to receive on Wednesday the first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 shots dispatched to Africa under COVAX. (Ghanaweb)
