Benue State Government has flagged off the distribution of the second phase of the Federal Government palliatives secured to cushion the hardship of people in Benue State.
Performing the ceremony on Thursday at IBB square Makurdi, Governor Hyacinth Alia appreciated the President Tinubu led government for carrying Benue people along in the provision of palliatives meant for Nigerians.
Represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Chenge, charged the committee to ensure that the exercise is carried out with all sense of transparency, equity, fairness and accountability in the distribution process.
Governor Alia, who acknowledged the wisdom of the Federal Government in providing relief to the citizens of the state during this hard economic times, also explained the cause of the delay in distributing the food items adding however that the measure was to tighten up the loop holes.
The Chairman of the committee and commissioner for Transport, Power and Renewable Energy, Mr. Omale Omale informed that the items would be shared to traditional and religious leaders, School for Exceptional Children, Aliade and Vandeikya, people with special needs among others.
Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, (BSEMA), Sir James Iorpuu stated that to ensure smooth distribution, specific days and dates have been assigned to beneficiaries in their various groups and urged them to adhere strictly to the schedule.
The items donated include, twenty three thousand, two hundred bags of rice and twenty four thousand bags of maize.
