Borno Security Council lifts restriction from 12 pm to 3:00 pm on Friday

Borno State Security Council has reviewed the ongoing curfew imposed to prevent infiltration of Boko Haram/ISWAP elements following credible intelligence sources and an IED attack on Kawuri village Wednesday and parts of Maiduguri on Thursday that claimed several lives and many injured.

The curfew will also continue from 3:00 p.m. on Friday to 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, after which people are expected to go about their normal business.

According to a statement by Prof. Usman Tar, Honorable Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, the curfew is a response to the prevailing security challenges in the area.

The statement reads in bike: “In the light of the ongoing security challenges, the Borno State Security Council has imposed an indefinite curfew within Maiduguri Metropolis and Jere Local Government Area of Borno State. The Curfew is indefinite and people are enjoined to remain within their localities.

“However, on Friday, citizens are allowed to observe the Jummua Prayers in Mosques nearest to their communities within the hours of 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm.

“Citizens are enjoined to join the Jumaat congregations at Mosques nearest to their places of resident.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the curfew shall be reactivated at 3.00 pm on Friday 2 August 2024 and remain so until further notice.

“Citizens are advised to obey this Curfew strictly as Security Operatives have been deployed to critical locations. Any one who violates this Curfew will face the full wrath of the Law.

“The Curfew shall be reviewed as the security situation improves.
