DIG warns police officers against human rights abuse

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South West region, DIG Biodun Alabi, on Tuesday, urged police officers to accord members of the public their due dignity and respect human rights while discharging their duties.

Alabi stated this while addressing officers at the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Eleweran, Abeokuta during his one-day working visit to the state.

The Police boss warned that the authorities would deal decisively with any officer found trampling on the rights of the people.

He said, “Human rights abuse had been identified as one of the major factors affecting the image of police.

“Officers and men of the Nigeria police force must be exemplary in their conduct, maintain the highest level of discipline to earn the respect and support of the general public in the discharge of their duties.”

Alabi said he was in the state in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police to all DIGs to visit all the states under their supervision.

The State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni and other top hierarchy of the command received the DIG.

In his address, Alamutu said that the status of Ogun as the industrial hub of the nation and neighbour to many states and other countries was not without its antecedent security challenges.

He explained that the command was rising to the challenges.

The DIG also paid a courtesy call on the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo to receive his royal blessings and intimate the royal father with the plan of the force to effectively police the country.

In his remarks, Oba Gbadebo thanked the police force for ensuring peace in the nation through effective community policing and prayed for more success in all their endeavours.
