Mercy Corps has been present in Nigeria since 2012, focusing its interventions on adolescent girls’ empowerment, economic development, and conflict mitigation. With the insurgency spilling over from the Northeast of Nigeria and causing displacement of millions of individuals, Mercy Corps started its humanitarian response in 2014 to address the rising humanitarian needs. With funding from institutional donors, foundations and private corporations, Mercy Corps continues to aid meet the basic needs of vulnerable populations in the areas of food security, shelter, water and sanitation, protection, and livelihoods.

With the recognition of the protracted crisis in Northeast Nigeria, Mercy Corps’ strategy and expansion plans aim to address the root causes of the crisis and seek to build long-term resilience of communities with integrated programs focusing on the recovery of markets and livelihoods, social cohesion and social protection, and youth empowerment with emphasis on adolescent girls and boys. With multiple funding streams from large institutional donors and foundations, Mercy Corps’ programs in Northeast Nigeria continue to scale up and serve communities by transitioning them from humanitarian aid to early recovery programs.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

This position is based in Maiduguri with major responsibility of supporting Mercy Corps CVA activities under BHA THRIVE and BEGE program in Jere/MMC and BEGE LGA. She/he will also provide general support to the CVA sector in carrying out its day to-day implementation of activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • The Ad-hoc CVA Technical Support Assistant will be responsible for supporting the management of all CASH activities under NE CORE project around deep field locations in liaison relevant technical team members.
  • Support all CVA activities in NE CORE locations.
  • Assist the CVA activities to ensure works are implemented according to plans and completed within the designated timeframe.
  • Monitor the quality of CVA materials redeemed against the vouchers.
  • Support in CVA redemption and reconciliations with vendors.
  • Administering of CVA Compliance checklist for vendors stock checks before items redemption.
  • Support in pre-evaluation of needs (target need assessment, Beneficiary identification, and selection.
  • Provide technical support and orientation to local technicians and artisans.
  • Conduct community sensitization, awareness, and mobilization to encourage beneficiaries’ commitment to the CVA activities with support from community engagement officer.

  • Assist in Routine monitoring of project activities and report feedback from the community and stakeholders to CVA Officer.
  • Support CVA officer in documentations of all CVA, PRs, task order, Activity budget and any other documents.
  • Support CVA officer in preparation of payment documents, meeting with vendors, write minutes of monthly meeting and any other meeting.
  • Works closely with CVA vendors in the field with provision of technical support and guidance.
  • Develop good working relationships and coordinate with relevant stakeholders involved in areas of intervention.
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Reports Directly To: Cash Platform and Vendor Relations Officer

Works Directly With: All program teams, Operations, MEL, etc.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Business, Finance, or relevant field of studies
  • Experience working in a similar role with a strong educational background is required.
  • Experience working with local stakeholders is required.
  • Good organizational and program management skills and the ability to anticipate program needs.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office and design software (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are required, with a strong focus on Excel.
  • Ability to perform voucher distribution/activation and management process on the field is required.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills are an advantage, with local languages skills a bonus. Proven experience working in insecure environment and through remote management.
  • Fluency in English, Hausa, and other relevant local languages is desirable.
  • Ability to navigate the NAGIS Platform and Red Rose Platform is an added advantage to you submission.

LIVING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The position will be based in Maiduguri with frequent travels to deep field Locations in Borno State.
