Naturally, it was a huge moment in his career as he wheeled away in celebration.
But, speaking after the game, the 18-year-old was unnecessarily apologetic for his celebration.
“Yeah, it felt good so got ahead of myself. Sorry,” he told Sky Sports.
Mainoo added: “Unbelievable feeling, first professional goal at Old Trafford and to do it in this fixture is also amazing. At the end of the day, we don’t walk away with the three points so I can’t be too happy.”
On the result, the star midfielder said: “Disappointed [with only a point], to be honest, because I feel like second half we performed really well. We picked it up and the lads worked really, really hard. It was minor mistakes that in the end were major. Need ironing out and we can win the game.”
Mainoo has now scored three goals this season, including two strikes in the Premier League.
He continues to enjoy a sensational breakout campaign, enhancing his budding reputation with every performance.
The point against Liverpool, meanwhile, leaves the Red Devils in sixth place, with 49 points on the board.
Mainoo is set to return to action when his side travel to Bournemouth next Saturday.
