Latvia player scores worst own goal in history just 14 seconds into match against Liechtenstein

Latvia conceded just 14 seconds into their game against Liechtenstein after one of the worst own goals in history.

The two sides are playing out a friendly at Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium this evening and the away side were 1-0 up in no time.

But it was a complete and utter gift from Latvia defender Marcis Oss. The hosts passed the ball about confidently after kick and centre-back Oss was in possession.

He attempted to play the ball back to his goalkeeper but did not look before passing, therefore failing to notice he had moved a couple of yards.

Oss then subsequently passed the ball into his own net in a truly calamitous moment that you would expect to see in Sunday League.

Latvia pulled level in the 11th minute through Raimonds Krollis but of course social media was awash with reaction for the blunder.

One wrote: “‘Alright lads, keep it tight early on…’ Latvia with an absolutely stonking own goal this evening.”

A second said: “It looks like it’s STRAIGHT out of Football Manager.”

Another joked: “Keeper’s 100% got a bet on that.”

A fourth simply said: “They are taking the p***.”

To make the gaffe even funnier, Liechtenstein’s players had the audacity to celebrate wildly and mob their striker even though he did absolutely nothing to force the mistake.

It’s believed that the fastest own goal in history was scored by Pat Kruse of Torquay United against Cambridge United back in 1977.

He put through his own net just eight seconds into the clash.
