At least 200 new coronavirus infections have been connected to an outbreak at Nanjing’s airport, which has spread to five Chinese provinces.
This was reported by Chinese official media on Friday, as the Delta version continued to spread.
The first cases of illness were discovered among airport personnel in the 9-million-person city last week.
The virus was thought to have arrived in Nanjing on an aircraft from Russia.
The majority of the instances were found in Nanjing, Jiangsu province’s capital.
Individual illnesses, however, have been discovered in other places among visitors returning from the region.
Two afflicted patients have also been identified in Beijing, China’s capital.
The officials urged individuals to desist from doing so.
Returnees from Nanjing, where the whole population had been tested twice for the virus since last week, were also subjected to rigorous quarantine measures.
In China, where the first worldwide illnesses with the new virus were detected in December 2019, life has virtually returned to normal for more than a year.
Entry into the country is likewise subject to tight restrictions, with visitors required to spend at least two weeks in a quarantine facility.
The extremely contagious Delta version, on the other hand, has recently pushed authorities to their limits on multiple occasions.
Local outbreaks of the variation have been reported in the southern Chinese provinces of Guangdong and Yunnan in recent weeks.
